February 2023: Okeover Harbour is operating on a similar basis to pre Covid. Only the two outer docks will be available to visiting boats, and on the outside only. These are the two large docks facing North. Visitors are asked to respect others.
The Laughing Oyster Restaurant is in operation Wednesday to Sunday, from 4 pm. Closed for the winter.
Okeover Harbour remains an essential service to many locals, oyster farmers and contractors in the area. It is for these people mainly that the existence of the Harbour continues. However, we welcome visitors as always.
As before, payment envelopes and rate sheets are available at the office; envelopes with payment can be put into the office drop box. Envelopes can be used for car parking as well. Staff will be in attendance. We hope you have a safe journey.
Welcome to the Okeover Harbour Authority website. We are proud of our facility and encourage visitors to share our commitment to keeping this one of the most beautiful areas on the coast.
Okeover Harbour Authority is a Non-Profit Organization, incorporated federally in Canada in 2000, for the purpose of managing the Okeover Harbour on behalf of Small Craft Harbours (DFO) to provide services for local Aquaculture farmers and all dock users. The Okeover Harbour Authority is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board is made up of community members with a vested interest in the efficient running of the dock and continuing the environmental standards established with the Authority.
Okeover Harbour is located on the Upper Sunshine Coast, north of Powell River, British Columbia. Although we are on the mainland, a ferry ride is involved in travelling anywhere beyond the 60 km of highway.
We offer protected moorage, a boat launch ramp, a kayak launch area, vehicle parking, toilet, hydro on some of the docks, public phone. The well-known Laughing Oyster Restaurant is a 5 minute walk away. Powell River Sea Kayaks is located about 3 km north on the gravel Crowther Road.
The Inlet is well protected and is a very popular boating destination for a diverse group of recreational boaters. The local community consists of Aquaculture lease owners, remote full-time residents, seasonal residents and many visitors. The area is very beautiful, a pristine wilderness, well loved by all who live and work and visit here.
Okeover Harbour Authority is a member of the Harbour Authority Association of British Columbia. The HAABC has 52 members on this coast. Their mandate is "To establish effective communication between Harbour Authorities through information exchange, networking and education."
